Billie’s Blues (Billie Holiday) by Juliet Stockton
Billie Holiday’s life story is marked by triumphs and struggles. Billie's beauty and the pain she endured throughout her life are reflected with distinctive, bold brush marks and vibrant colours to portray her energy and spirit. The neon pink flower in her hair, together with the dark blue centre symbolizes her radiance, elegance, vulnerability and sensitivity, while the sadness in her expression and the blue background reflects the hardships she faced, both personally and professionally.
The inclusion of Billies trademark, luminous pearls contrast against her dark clothing and the blue backdrop represent her elegance, sophistication, and timeless beauty within the smoky, dark jazz clubs she performed in.
